Bailey's Arbor, Woodbury

Bailey's Arbor, Woodbury
describe the image

On Saturday, July 26, 2008 Twin Cities Habitat celebrated its longstanding partnership with the city of Woodbury by dedicating eight more homes in the Bailey’s Arbor development. Woodbury is now home to 48 Habitat families, more than any other suburb in the metro area. Twin Cities Habitat's presence in Woodbury provides a success story for this changing building model. When the Bailey's Arbor development was first planned, the City of Woodbury encouraged Centex Homes to incorporate 30 Habitat homes into the overall development. A long-time corporate partner of Habitat for Humanity, Centex supported the idea.

In addition to the Bailey’s Arbor development, Twin Cities Habitat has participated in two other developments in the Woodbury area, Garden Gate and Courtly Road Townhomes which have 10 and 8 homes respectively.

Site history

The Bailey’s Arbor development will be incorporating some of the property's history in its future community. Until 1960, the land was owned by the Shilling family and used as a dairy farm. They sold the land to Gordon Bailey Nursery, Inc., who then used the area for nursery production. Bailey Nursery has distributed its products throughout the Northern U.S., Canada and Alaska. Some plants that were grown on the land by Bailey Nursery – like spruce trees, pine trees, and ornamental shrubs – will be used throughout the Bailey’s Arbor development.

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity (TCHFH) entered a four-way agreement between the City of Woodbury, Centex Homes and Arboretum Development to build on the property. TCHFH was given plans and designs and is building its 30-units to reflect the design of the entire development.

Fun facts

  • The 8-plex development at Bailey's Arbor is the single, largest structure that Twin Cities Habitat has ever built on its own.
