Twin Cities Habitat volunteers will be busy in city of Savage this summer. They'll be building four homes next to each other on Hampshire Lane. The volunteers from Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Burnsville kicked off work on the first home in at the start of May. Prince of Peace has been partnering with Twin Cities Habitat since 1989. The congregation has donated more than $154,000 to Habitat's mission of eliminating poverty housing.
The upcoming volunteer groups on this home will be coming from Hosanna! congregation, US Bank, Prime Therapeutics, and CenterPoint Energy. CenterPoint Energy is celebrate 20 years of partnership with Twin Cities Habitat this year.
These pictures were from just the third day of having volunteers on site. They've got a lot done already - the majority of the home is framed. They'll have to move fast because the digging starts soon on the foundation for the second home. Then, in late May, professional builders from Ryland Homes will start construction on the third Savage home. That one will be part of Habitat's national 2012 Builders Blitz - were professionals donate their time and talents to build homes for Habitat around the country.
Along with these homes in Savage, Habitat is building homes in Shakopee and Jordan this summer. There is still a lot of opportunities for volunteers on these projects. If you live in the Southwest Metro and want to be a part of the work please visit the link below.
Erik Johnson is the Site Supervisor on all four of the homes. He's an excellent teacher and great to work with.
