Women Build 2011 West St. Paul home week1

Last week was the eighth week of the summer build in West St. Paul. Time sure flies, and it’s so wonderful to see the changes and progress on the house with each visit I make. Worki, the homebuyer, has been a consistent friendly face each Friday, and I can only imagine her anticipation as more and more steps are completed. Last week I snapped photos as she caulked and painted the siding on her garage and house, looking like a pro.
With the scaffolding gone, the house’s painted exterior was on full view. Volunteers were beginning to paint the garage, and a rather chipper crew of gals – taking into consideration the job at hand – was shoveling dirt to make room for a retaining wall.
Inside, a crew was installing the laminate floor in a bedroom, and cabinets had been hung in the kitchen. It felt like only a week had passed since we had stood next to the foundation and celebrated the start of the build, and here I was looking at kitchen cabinets!
You know, of course, that none of this would be possible without our volunteers and supporters. Jane Casto and the (RW)2 crew deserve kudos for their Team Leader day, and volunteers would have been mighty hungry without the lunches provided by Becca Kvasnik, Shawn Chambers, Jane Casto, Ann Beane, and Bonita Labat and the Women of Good Shepherd. Thanks to all of you!
Check for volunteer spots that need to be filled by visiting VolunteerHub, and share your Women Build photos by sending them to womenbuildphotos@gmail.com or posting them to the Women Build Facebook page (becoming a Facebook fan is an easy way to stay up-to-date).
There’s still work to be done! Stay tuned for another update.
Take care,
Andrea Cole
