Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s popular Women Build program kicked off a summer full of projects by painting a St. Paul home during the first week in May.
As a single mother who has been unemployed for more than a year Susan needed a little help to maintain the exterior of her house. "Up until a year ago I was able to do all these types of things on my own," says Susan. "I'm so thankful to have a program and a team of volunteers to help me through this time."
Women Build volunteers will also be building two complete homes this summer. They’ll start on the first in West St. Paul with a kickoff event on June 6. Then in late August construction will start on the second Women Build home in Columbia Heights.
“For me, Women Build is the convergence of all things great,” says Sharon Pfieffer, co-chair of Women Build. “Where else can a person be involved in a fabulous organization whose purpose is to provide a safe, stable home for families in need, do something entirely for others, learn new skills in the process, and make great friends?”
We are currently recruiting volunteers to be Crew Leaders, Site Hosts and Lunch Providers. In addition, there are still a couple Team Leader days open. A Team Leader is in charge of reserving a build day, recruiting a team of 14 construction volunteers, and raising $1,500 to support the day's work. To schedule your Team Leader day, call or e-mail Heather at (612) 305-7138 or womenbuild@tchabitat.org.
