Women Build 2011 Columbia Heights home week 8
The Women Build home on Van Buren is a bright sunny house. It’s on a hilly lot with steps up to the front porch and steps going down to the garage...
“How do you give back to your community?”
Last week, three volunteers met to share a ride to the Women Build site. It was early and they decided to grab a cup of coffee at the neighborhood coffee shop. When they entered the shop one of the volunteers noticed that posted on the public chalkboard was the question, “How do you give back to your community?” Customers were able to respond to the question and “Building homes with Habitat - Women Build!” was written proudly on the board!
A day-in-the-life of a Habitat volunteer is rewarding and fun. The Medtronic Team even color coordinated their construction attire! It was their annual ‘Black (with some gray and white as well) Hat Gala’. The air temperature was just warm enough so that the paint primer dried but was cool enough so that everyone had to keep their layers on. Completing the siding on the garage and touching up the paint and front porch woodwork were just a few of the tasks that they worked on while all bundled up. For much of the remainder of the build, most of the work will be completed inside and electricity and lighting should be up and running soon.
We are halfway through the Fall Build and the progress has been steady. There are still seven weeks remaining on the build and we would love to see our wonderful volunteers participate one last time for this 2011 season! Tell a few friends, help sign them up, bring them along on your next Women Build day and let them give back to their community too.
Thanks to Andrea for organizing volunteers from Medtronic and providing lunch for two days.
Also, a reminder that the 2011 Women Build home dedications will be taking place this Thursday in West St. Paul at the Deppe Street home. The festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend!
Stay warm and keep your eyes open to new opportunities!
