Comprehensive campaign responds to increased need to revitalize neighborhoods hardest hit by the foreclosure crisis
MINNEAPOLIS – Oct. 6, 2010
Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity today announced a $36 million campaign to expand Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s services over the next four years. The announcement of the A World of Hope: It Starts at Home campaign was made at the World of Hope Gala at which President Jimmy Carter addressed the more than 1,200 attendees and campaign co-chairs Mary Lynn and Warren Staley announced the campaign’s first pledges.
Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity has already raised $16,329,591 million toward its ambitious goal, including increased commitments from long-time Habitat for Humanity supporters Wells Fargo, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and General Mills. Significant contributions from individuals including $1 million gifts from Mary Lynn and Warren Staley and Brad and Janet Anderson.
“We are making a strong and lasting commitment to grow to help meet the tremendous need in our community,” said Sue Haigh, president and CEO of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. “Building on the momentum of the Carter Work Project we are increasing our dedication to neighborhood revitalization to help us serve more families and strengthen our community’s neighborhoods. We are so grateful for the generous support of the companies, congregations and individuals that have made a commitment to help us achieve our goal.”
The World of Hope campaign will allow Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to build, rehab or repair 730 homes across the metro area and serve additional families through homebuilding and other housing services with the goal of serving 5,200 families by 2014. The campaign and the increase in services is Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s response to the urgent and tremendous need to revitalize neighborhoods affected by the foreclosure crisis.
Through the World of Hope campaign Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity will partner with local organizations and communities in the seven-county metro area to address the challenges facing both the people and the neighborhoods affected by foreclosures. With the generous support of donors, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity will rebuild homes and sell them to families prepared to be successful homeowners and repair homes owned by low-income homeowners. Neighborhoods will come back to life more vibrant than before, offering affordable housing options for families at a variety of income levels.
