You may noticed something a bit different in these photos from previous builds. Yes, this is the current Women Build's house progress. Women Build Teams will kick-off the summer and continue building on this house starting June 6th.
We're trying something new with the goal of giving Women Build volunteers the opportunity to get new hands-on skills and experiences by starting teams in the 5th week of progress. Which means what? Well, as you can see, our goal is to have the majority of "outside" work done (i.e. installing the floor trusses and decking, raising walls, roof decking, house siding, interior walls, etc). Basically lots and lots of hammering. So, by starting after those tasks are completed, work can begin on "inside" tasks.
This means in addition to tasks you may have completed before (i.e. installing insulation, vapor barrier, sheet rock), teams will also be able to work on installing windows, doors, trim, floors, cabinets and many other inside tasks...including painting.
We will still be building the garage in its entirety; so there will be opportunity to install the walls, siding, roof, etc., depending on the Site Supervisor's task list for the day.
I took these photos when I went out to the site the other day and teams were finishing up installing the roof trusses and then start installing roof decking. After that, the plan is to get the siding installed before Women Build starts on June 6th.
So ladies...we'll see you on site!
