MN Idea Open teaming up with Twin Cities Habitat
Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity (TCHFH) will lead 10 special volunteer days during which participants will (1) build homes and (2) generate submissions for this year’s Minnesota Idea Open.
The Minnesota Idea Open brings Minnesotans together to help solve our state’s most critical issues through statewide idea Challenges. This year's Challenge III: “Working Together Across Cultures and Faiths,” asks for the best idea to build bonds and work together across cultures and faiths in the community.
"This is a great chance to bring people of different backgrounds together for the common mission of eliminating poverty housing," says Stephanie Nelson, Faith Community Relations Coordinator for TCHFH. "Volunteers will also get a chance to brainstorm ideas to further build bridges over our differences."
TCHFH is hosting 10 special construction days to engage volunteers from diverse backgrounds in building together. Volunteers will help build affordable homes and engage in discussions aimed at answering the challenge question.
All TCHFH’s special “Building Together Across Cultures and Faiths Days” will be at the Old Third Avenue Townhome site in Northeast Minneapolis on the following dates: March 2*, 3*, 6, 8*, 13*, 15, 16*, 17, 23 and 24*.
Volunteers may sign-up for days as individuals or in small groups of 4 to 6 people. Individuals may sign up online at or contact volunteer@tchabitat.org; (612) 305-7114. Groups should contact Lindsey Bulger at lindsey.bulger@tchabitat.org; (612) 305-7162.
A public vote will crown three Challenge Champions. Each winning idea receives a $15,000 grant for implementation, and the three Champions also receive a $500 cash prize. Click here for complete rules and other contest guidelines. Idea Submission will be from Feb. 28 to March 23; champions will be announced between May 30 and June 8.
The Idea Open Challenge III is made possible by One Nation and three affiliates of Minnesota Philanthropy Partners: Minnesota Community Foundation, the Multicultural Endowment, and Facing Race.
