Injured Veterans getting wheelchair ramps thanks to partnership

Injured Veterans getting wheelchair ramps thanks to partnership

For immediate release:

MINNEAPOLIS - March 14, 2011

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is teaming up with the Metropolitan Council for Independent Living (MCIL) to build wheelchair accessibility ramps for several U.S. Veterans this year. Crews of Veterans will be volunteering and doing the work, which will be overseen by Twin Cities Habitat’s “A Brush with Kindness” (ABWK) home restoration program.

Preliminary work for the next ramp project will be done March 21-25. It will then be installed at the home of a Veteran in Brooklyn Park March 28-30. MCIL is planning on building 16 ramps for Twin Cities Veterans this year. Twin Cities Habitat is committed to assist on as many of these projects as funding will allow. The first ramp was completed at a home in West St. Paul in mid-February.

Veterans in need of a ramp can contact either the Twin Cities Habitat’s ABWK office at 612-788-8169 - abwk@tchabitat.org or Missy Williams, Veterans Program Coordinator, at the MCIL at 651-603-2027 – missyw@mcil-mn.org.

If you would like to make a donation to help build more ramps for more Veterans you can email contribute@tchabitat.org or call 612-305-7139.
