How do you get free cookies and brownies?

I never received free cookies until I volunteered with my student council group at Youth United house with homeowner, Helen.

Although my school had a dance party the night before we volunteered, all the member of student council put tremendous effort into working on insulation and painting. During lunch, the volunteers ordered pizzas and my fellow Youth United Leaders stopped by to deliver cookies and brownies.

I was extremely excited. To be honest, I was curious about the taste of the desserts. When I started to smell sweet brownies, I could not resist trying them! I have to admit that the taste of brownies was far beyond my expectation. The outside was a little bit crunchy, but the inside was soft and sweet.

After eating desserts, volunteers tried to finish their jobs. Most of the participants have never volunteered for Habitat for Humanity before. It was a great way to be involved in community events and also to learn about the realities of poverty housing from Helen. We also celebrated Helen’s last day of sweat equity.

A couple of days later, my school student council received an unexpected thank you note from Youth United. Many people told me that they appreciated the deserts and thank you note from Youth United.
