Home Rehab with your Representative

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is partnering this week with Representative Peggy Scott to make an impact on the foreclosure crisis

(MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – December 3, 2009) Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is partnering with State Representatives in the rehabilitation of homes that currently stand vacant in the metropolitan area. Twin Cities Habitat has worked hard, with Neighborhood Stabilization Program funds, to obtain vacant and foreclosed properties. These homes will be rehabbed, put back into the affordable housing market and become available for homebuyers to purchase.

Minnesota’s elected officials are committed to helping change the housing market. Representative Peggy Scott is first on the list to participate in the home rehabilitation. She will be volunteering Thursday, Dec. 3 at 4951 Madison Street Northeast, Columbia Heights, Minn.

Other State Representatives and a State Senator will be volunteering on home rehab projects throughout December and January. A list of the participants and dates follow: Dec. 9, Representative Erin Murphy; Jan. 5, Representative Jim Davnie; Jan. 9, Representative Will Morgan and Senator John Dahl; Jan. 19, Representative Paul Gardner; and Jan. 23, Senator John Dahl.

“This is a great opportunity for elected officials to make a tangible difference in some of the worst hit neighborhoods while working side by side with their constituents.” Kristin Beckman, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity Government & Community Relations Director.

Volunteer spots are still available for “Home Rehab with your Representative.” The volunteer day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Individuals interested in volunteering may contact Mary Ellen Jaspers by phone at 612-305-7117 or by e-mail at maryellen.jaspers@tchabitat.org.

Elected Officials that would like to volunteer should contact Trista Matascastillo by phone at 612-305-7136 or by email at trista.matascastillo@tchabitat.org.
