Kenisha's Big Day
Dozens of families sweat and save to buy a Twin Cities Habitat home each year. For every one of them the closing day is something special. Here is...
“Life feels like you're constantly getting knocked down and to stand up for that one moment and get those keys—that was everything to me."
– Kenisha, Habitat homeowner since 2012
Prior to purchasing her home, Kenisha was a single mother providing for her four children, one of whom is disabled. She found it impossible to balance finding a home with her job, raising her children, and regular trips to the hospital. Twin Cities Habitat just offered that little bit of support and guidance to Kenisha to help her achieve her dream of homeownership.
Kenisha's son Jerome also described the change he saw in his mother's stress level after buying her Habitat home. How Kenisha not having to deal with landlords avoiding their responsibility of upkeep and repairs gave her immense relief and security. And that seeing his mother more relaxed helped Jerome focus more in school and on his own future.
"You don't have to sit around and wait, you can go out there and get this." -Kenisha
