Warm Home Dedications even in a Cold February
The month of February wraps up with three wonderful Habitat Home Dedications.
Last week, two families fulfilled their dreams of becoming homeowners, surrounded by Habitat staff, family, friends, and supporters.
On Saturday, March 10, Nestory and his wife Sikuzani celebrated their new home located in Ramsey, Minnesota. Nestory shared that his experience with Habitat was good and at some times, difficult. It is a lot of hard work, but the end result is worth it. “People need a place to call home. Thank you to all the volunteers, you work hand-in-hand with families to make this possible,” said Nestory. Site Supervisor Tony Beckstrom was proud of the work done on the home and in the neighborhood. “This is a beautiful site, a peaceful neighborhood, and a great place to raise a family. The home is a nice improvement to the street. It replaced a home that had 18 rusted cars in the yard! The quality of life of the family is so much better because of what volunteers and sponsors contribute,” said Tony.
Later that week, Twin Cities Habitat celebrated Vivian as she is about to close on her Minneapolis home at the end of March. Vivian was joined by her children, grandkids, church community, and volunteers from the Women Build crew. The dedication started with an emotional and inspiring prayer by Evangelist Anna Mae Howard from Joy Word Universal Church.
Vivian was overjoyed to have so many loved ones present at the dedication. “This is a dream come true,” said Vivian, after she introduced her five kids. “I’m a mother of 5 and grandmother of 16. I’ve been long dreaming of sleeping in my own home since I’ve moved here from Liberia.”
It was very apparent that everyone in the home cared a lot about the work done and the family who will benefit. This home was worked on by the Women Build volunteer group, who came out to celebrate Vivian. Site Supervisor Ashley Rose loved working with the Women Build crew and with Vivian on another Habitat home. “Thank you for letting us be a part of your journey,” she said.
A huge thank you to Thrivent Financial for sponsoring, Women Build for their volunteer days, and Vivian for welcoming us all into her home. We wish Vivian and her family all the best!
