Delta Air Lines builds Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity home with local family

Twin Cities one of seven locations thousands of Delta employees will support in 2010

Minneapolis, Sept. 15, 2010 – Beginning this week, more than 500 Delta employees are rolling up their sleeves to partner with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity as part of Delta’s commitment to construct both new homes and renovate others in seven U.S. cities. In addition to Minneapolis-St. Paul, Delta volunteers will construct at least one new home with Habitat affiliates in Atlanta, New York City, Cincinnati, Memphis and Detroit.

"Delta people have a long tradition of supporting the communities where we live and work, and our long association with Habitat is a great way to show that support and better our communities," said Ed Bastian, president of Delta Air Lines and board member of Habitat for Humanity International.

In the Twin Cities, Delta employees will help build the future home of Abdukadir Abdi and Shukri Shiekh Yusuf in Shakopee. The home is one of ten Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is building in the Thomas A. Philipp Park Addition over the next three years.

"Partnerships like the one we share with Delta are essential to our community’s well being, and play a critical role in our ability to offer safe, decent and affordable homes throughout the Twin Cities region," said Susan Haigh, President and CEO of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity.

Across the other six cities, Delta employees are supporting projects representing local Habitat achievements or special milestones including a LEED-certified home in Los Angeles, and in Boston, the final home in the largest density urban project in the Northeast. This year's build will see the completion of the 33rd and 34th homes that Delta team members have built in the Atlanta Area since 2000.
