CenterPoint Energy celebrating 21 years of building with Habitat

What: CenterPoint Energy volunteer crews will be helping build a Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity home the week of June 10-14. This is the 21st straight year that CenterPoint Energy has helped fund and supply volunteers to support Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s mission of eliminating poverty housing.

Where/When:
The volunteers will be working on the home at 4312 Brunswick Avenue North in Crystal. Volunteers will be on site from 8:30am to 4:00pm each day of the week of June 10-14. On Thursday, June 13, CenterPoint Energy will be hosting a Government Day where local and state leaders will participate as volunteer as well. State Representative Mike Frieberg and State Senator Ann Rest are scheduled to attend.

Background: Approximately 1,800 CenterPoint Energy employees and retirees have volunteered more than 15,000 hours with Twin Cities Habitat over the past twenty-one years. The home they’re helping build this summer will be sold to a hardworking, low-income family. Habitat homebuyers pay a mortgage and taxes. They must perform hundreds of hours of sweat equity and complete homeownership training courses before closing on their new homes.

“We are proud that our employees leverage their talents and skill set in supporting the need for affordable housing,” says Jean Krause, Director of Community Relations for CenterPoint Energy. “It’s also rewarding to partner with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to help them achieve their goals.”

“CenterPoint Energy is a great partner in our mission,” says Susan Haigh, President and CEO of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. “Their financial and volunteer support has been tremendous. CenterPoint’s guidance is also instrumental in our ongoing effort to build efficient homes that are affordable for families long term.
