Added Space
The ReStore’s new “bump out” space is 4,375 square feet, which was acquired at the beginning of February. Prior to February, the challenge was allocating suitable short-term storage in the ReStore’s "cookie cutter"-shaped intake or dock area. The ReStore staff is anxious to put up pallet racking in the isolated, rectangular space and begin utilizing the store's forklift to full capacity. Now, when a local business calls to say “we have 10 pallets of great materials to be donated”, the ReStore can respond with “Thanks. Come on down!” The expansion will also provide space for a new showroom area in the back corner of the Restore, which will use roughly ½ of the new square footage.
“The new retail area will be an experiment to decide on which product categories can be showed in their best light, most likely cabinetry and furniture,” said Bill Sevlie, the ReStore Sales Associate responsible for the new showroom space.
First-ever 50% off sale
On February 1st, thousands of hungry bargain shoppers lined up outside an hour before the Restore opened its doors, to ensure they’d come away with deep discounts. This 50% off, one-day-only sale generated over $15,000 in profits for the store, clearing the way for new donations to be accepted. Furthermore, the sale received a good amount of local media attention, with two Habitat employees on Saturday morning shows and a number of local blogs covering the event as well. The Twin Cities ReStore is already planning their next sale, which will take place in April.
