For today's #ThankfulThursday post, we wanted to recognize the generosity of the Twin Cities corporate community as a major contributor to the high quality life we enjoy. As of November 12th 2013, 167 corporations and businesses have given $1.6 million to Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. In addition to financial donations, the local corporate community helps Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity transform the lives of well-deserving homebuyer families through the help of hundreds of employee volunteer groups who build and rehab Habitat homes located across the seven county metro area.
3M CARES, 3M’s retiree volunteer group, began a partnership with Twin Cities Habitat in 1994. For the past three years, 3M CARES members have been hard at work building affordable homes at Twin Cities Habitat’s Garden Gate multi-unit townhome complex. The 40 unit development is the largest project ever undertaken by Twin Cities Habitat. 3M CARES volunteers are at the site nearly every day of the year; be it on a frigid January morning or a blistering August afternoon. Former 3M CARES Project Director John Winters may have said it best, “(3M CARES volunteers) are providing quality affordable housing. They are improving neighborhoods. They are helping families become first-time homebuyers as they move out of the cycle of poverty. Overall, everyone wins — the volunteers, the city, the neighborhood and the new homeowners. What a great deal!”
