One of the more significant changes was the ReStore’s remodeling. “With the new makeover, it’s way easier to find good product. It’s more organized and the layout is more inviting,” said Kristen, a customer who has been shopping at the ReStore for almost four years. “I come about once a month and I always walk away with more than I planned on buying. There are so many great finds.”
Along with the remodel, an increase in corporate donations was another factor in the doubling of sales. A number of generous donations from major corporations like Target led to the stocking of more top-quality, highly popular items. One ReStore donor, New Prague’s ALCO store, dropped off a truckload of tools, paint and hardware – products always in great demand.
Much of this success can be attributed to the new manager, Pete O’Keefe (pictured above). Pete came to the store with 30 years of experience helping corporations move recyclable goods. His savvy business sense has been a blessing for the store; he has helped acquire new donors, arrange the store in a more attractive way and increase foot traffic.
“My goal is to always operate at a profit. We have almost generated enough profit to build one Habitat home. I want to be able to build many,” Pete said. “That’s why I work at the ReStore. I am motivated by the fact that the more money I make for the store, the more money Twin Cities Habitat will have to build homes for people in need. It’s truly a great cause.”
