Women Build will begin construction on a single-family home in West St. Paul
through a partnership with the Dakota County Community Development Agency. Construction is expected to begin in August, and will be completed in October. Women Build’s new home will replace a vacant, foreclosed home that was structurally substandard according to the Community Development Agency.
The Women Build home will not only provide stability for a family, it will also help stabilize the community. The Dakota County Community Development Agency acquired the site through the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program -- a program that improves housing in communities affected by foreclosure. The West St. Paul home will be the second built in partnership with Dakota County. The first home was built in 2012.
Women Build projects offer a unique approach to eliminating poverty housing in the Twin Cities. Women provide the funding and volunteer labor for an entire home build -- from raising the first wall to landscaping. Each of the two Women Build homes built annually is managed by an experienced woman site supervisor from Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. This year we also have, for the first time, a woman as the Project Manager. Women Build is women empowering women to make a difference for families in the Twin Cities.
