Ten years after the Entrepreneurs House laid its foundation in the Twin Cities, its supporters have raised nearly $1 million to support local affordable housing. Members hope to reach that amount in cash and commitments this year.
Each house is a community service project for the Twin Cities entrepreneurial community: a group of companies, investment firms and other businesses that support Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. The group is supported and led by a steering committee of entrepreneurial minded volunteers.
Entrepreneurs House has built nine homes to date and is entirely volunteer-driven; supporters recruit companies, raise funds and schedule volunteers, all while delivering a fresh pot of coffee to the build site each morning. Last year, they raised more than $125,000 and coordinated more than 500 volunteers on the build site.
Since 2003, Entrepreneurs House has constructed single- and multi-unit housing in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Woodbury and Oakdale, engaging an increasing number of sponsors and volunteers each year. Members plan a build for a Minneapolis family with special needs this year.
Entrepreneurs House members will kick-off their 10th Anniversary house with a breakfast celebration for past builders on March 8. Meanwhile, several homes have been built in Chicago, with an expansion headed by Entrepreneurs House founder John Bergstrom.
