Minneapolis-based Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is committing $9.2M to build 142 Habitat for Humanity homes across the country in 2012. Thrivent Financial committed $564,258 of that money to build six homes in conjunction with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity (TCHFH). These projects are all part of a unique partnership known as Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity.
The 7-year-old partnership has resulted in 1,600 homes being built by 480,000 volunteers who’ve donated a total of 3 million hours of labor. This year the partnership surpassed $160M in total grants awarded. Thrivent Financial is the single largest supporter of Habitat for Humanity in the world.
The local partnership between Thrivent Financial and TCHFH dates back to 1991 and has led to the creation and sale of 82 homes to qualified, low-income families.
“The Thrivent Builds alliance is helping Twin Cities Habitat increase the number of families served in our community,” said Susan Haigh, President and CEO of TCHFH. “We are so grateful for Thrivent’s support of our efforts to provide decent, affordable homes in partnership with families in need.”
