A group of 18 volunteers from the Twin Cities are building the 2,000th Habitat home in Mozambique as part of a Global Village trip. Twin Cities Habitat began a tithe partnership with Mozambique in 2010 and has sent more than $200,000 to the Habitat affiliate there so far. Thanks to the low-cost of home construction that's enough money to build 75 simple, decent homes for Mozambique families.
This is the first time Twin Cities Habitat has sent volunteers to Mozambique to help in construction. Trista Matascastillo, who works for Twin Cities Habitat and is leading this Global Village trip, says the need for better housing in Mozambique huge. She says the volunteers from the Twin Cities all agree that more needs to be done in the future.
Twin Cities Habitat #1 in tithing
Each year Twin Cities Habitat tithes 10% of all undesignated donations it receives to help build homes with Habitat affiliates around the world. Along with Mozambique, its current tithe partners are Costa Rica and Haiti. This year Twin Cities Habitat became the #1 affiliate in the world in terms of dollars tithed towards eliminating poverty housing on a global scale.
