26 Ways To Get Involved With Twin Cities Habitat this Summer

With the official first day of summer less than two weeks away, we put together a list of some great ways you can get involved with Twin Cities Habitat this season!

  1. Volunteer photoVolunteer on a construction site, at the ReStore, in our main office or on an A Brush with Kindness home repair project
  2. Attend a home dedication in your community
  3. Take a tour of our new building
  4. Learn about our new homebuilding project in Hugo (June 18 informational session)
  5. Volunteer in a special role with our Family Services department
  6. Become a Housing Hero by signing up our petition asking community leaders to make affordable housing a priority!
  7. Attend one of our big summer fundraising events – the Raise the Roof Golf Tournament (August 4) or Raise A Glass for Tomorrow (August 30).
  8. Make an in-kind donation of materials, services, supplies or skills!
  9. Connect with us via social media! ​
     
  10. Stay informed about future volunteerism, unique opportunities and last-minute needs by signing up for  our Volunteer Emails!
  11. Join one of Habitat’s wonderful committees: Habitat Young Professionals, Youth United Steering Committee, Dedications Committee, Women Build Committee
  12. Subscribe to our monthly newsletter and stay up-to-date with what’s happening at Twin Cities Habitat!
  13. Cheer on riders at the Habitat 500 (July 13 – 19), as they raise funds to support our mission!
  14. ReStore SignShop at the ReStore to find great products, materials, appliances and tools for your home improvement projects.
  15. Already finished with that home project? Donate materials or appliances to the ReStore!
  16. Make a gift to Twin Cities Habitat, and support our mission to eliminate poverty housing in the Twin Cities.
  17. Watch a film! Our Book & Film club recommends The Pruitt-Igoe Myth, or Inocente, which can be found at your local library.
  18. Learn new skills and meet other great volunteers when you join a regular crew.
  19. Join a Habitat group! Women Build, Hearth & Hope, Habitat Young Professionals, Global Village Trip, Youth United, Youth & Family
  20. Love to read? Spend the summer catching up on the 2013 – 2014 Book & Film Club selections (Spirit Car: Journey to a Dakota Past by Diane Wilson, Soul of a Citizen: Living with Conviction in Challenging Times by Paul Loeb, What is the What by Dave Eggers) before Book Club meets again in the fall!
  21. Learn about great savings and new products - Subscribe to the ReStore “Hot Deals” emails!
  22. Tackle a DIY project with items from the ReStore – then show off your photos on the ReStore Facebook page!
  23. Write about your experience with Twin Cities Habitat, and send it to us at socialmedia@tchabitat.org. You never know – it may appear as a guest post on our blog!
  24. Like photography and/or social media? There are opportunities to put those skills to use with Habitat this summer! Email volunteer@tchabitat.org to express interest in helping out.
  25. Join the Twin Cities LGBTQA community and help build as apart of 2014 Rainbow Build! 
  26. Buying a new car this summer? Consider donating your old vehicle to Habitat for Humanity’s Cars for Homes program
