Myrna and Lawrence Hart are raising their grandson, Isaiah, in the home they built in Cottage Grove 35 years ago. The couple is extremely proud of their grandson for both his academic and athletic accomplishments. The Hart’s want to be able to support all of Isaiah’s passions but paying for extracurricular activities is difficult with the high cost of Myrna’s medical care. Expensive prescription medicine has become a burden for the Harts who are living on a fixed income.
When Myrna’s disability made it increasingly dangerous for her to access parts of her home, the Harts applied to Twin Cities Habitat's A Brush with Kindness(ABWK) program for assistance. Myrna said that the ABWK team went “above and beyond” helping her family, installing not only grab bars but also non-slip bath mats to help ensure Myrna’s safety in the shower. The Harts described the ABWK volunteers as kindly, punctual, and attentive, saying they showed great concern for the family’s needs.
With one less burden on their minds, the Hart’s can now focus on sending Isaiah off to college in the fall, and celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
