Update 1-July 12, 2010
Today marks the start of week three for this St. Paul rebuild. Although a lead abatement delayed construction, progress is now rolling along, thanks to an eight-week commitment of volunteers from Ecolab. With utilities roughed in, this week’s projects include framing the walls, reframing the doors and windows, and patching the floors. Some volunteers are in the basement, tearing down partitions and scrubbing the walls. Upcoming tasks include putting up housewrap and installing windows. AmeriCorps member Jenny Michaelson says a family has been chosen and will join the crew this week to begin their sweat equity hours.
Update 2- August 3, 2010
It’s a steamy start to week six for this East St. Paul rehab, but site supervisor Katie Ulwelling is keeping her steady rotation of Ecolab volunteers busy both inside and out. Now transformed with sheathing and newly installed windows, the exterior of the home will continue to progress this week as a group of volunteers brave the humidity to put up lap siding. This week’s interior project is insulation, with volunteers today installing batting in the upper level before working their way down. Katie hopes to start hanging drywall by the end of the week.
