Holy Hammers completing exterior work on Frogtown build

Holy Hammers completing exterior work on Frogtown build

Holy Hammers AprilIt’s week three on this two-story new home construction in Frogtown, and exterior work is moving at a frenzied pace.

Volunteers from Holy Hammers, a conglomeration of local church groups, will continue work on siding and trim into next week. Site Supervisor Rhonda Thorson said they’ve also finished work on the roof and shingles, and the electricians will finish this week.

Next week will bring the framing inspection and insulation.

The weather has cooperated so far,” reported Thorson. “It’s not the warmest days we’ve ever had, but it’s certainly not the coldest either.”

Rich Pursley, a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Roseville, is on his fifth consecutive year building during a Holy Hammers Workcamp. His favorite part of volunteering is meeting others on the build site – and picking up helpful building tips.

“You really get to see how mistakes get corrected – when I work at home, I got problems,” he laughed. “But Rhonda is good at showing us how to fix things.”

Holy Hammers is sponsoring a 10-week Workcamp at the site on Edmund Avenue in St. Paul. Since its founding in 1999, members have built 16 entire houses and parts of eight others – providing housing for more than 120 people
